Ordinarily, a home invasion isn’t something to snicker at. Ordinarily. However, when Antoine Dodson, the brother of the victim was interviewed by a local TV station, he just may have punched the ticket for himself and his sister out of the projects. The interview was turned into a musical (ish) auto-tune video that has been seen by millions. Antoine now has his own websites, T-shirts and a song that can now be downloaded on iTunes.

Iran Human Rights, July 3: A 43-year-old Iranian woman is facing death by stoning in northwest of Iran.
The woman who is identified as Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, is sentenced to death by stoning convicted of adultry.
Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani was interrogated in 2006 for the murder of her husband. In the interrogation session, Sakineh confessed to committing adultery with Nasser and Seyyed Ali, the two men responsible for her late husband’s murder. In May 2006, a court in the province of Eastern Azerbaijan (in northwestern Iran) sentenced Sakineh to 99 lashes for committing adultery. After serving her sentence, she was released. Four months later, another court sentenced her to death by stoning for adultery while married.
According to the human rights lawyer Mohamamd Mostafaei, who is Sakineh’s defence lawyer, the stoning sentence can be carried out at any moment.
According to the annual report of Iran Human Rights, at least one person were stoned to death in Iran in 2009 and an unknown number of people are sentenced to death by stoning.
Iran Human Rights urges the international community to put pressure on the Iranian authorities in order to stop this barbaric punishment.

Oh boy. Here we go. Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Jim Adams asks, “Is that art or something risque on the belly of the Bemidji beaver?” Bemidji is a lake side town in Minnesota and before this week, is best known as one of the birth places of legend Paul Bunyan and actress Jane Russell. The town has a sculpture walk downtown which, this year, features painted fiberglass beavers.
Artist Deborah Davis’ contribution features what some believe is a depiction of, gasp, a woman’s genitalia. The Star Tribute quoted her saying, “My intent was to paint Mother Nature, Mother Earth. I didn’t understand that some people saw genitalia. … I understand people see different things in art, and they need to be free to do that. … My intent was to paint a praying woman.”
So, you decide. Naturally there is a Facebook site devoted to what some say is artistic censorship.

No I don’t have stock in Procter & Gamble but when a company makes something that’s useful AND there’s a way you can help, why not? There’s something in Dawn that makes it ideal for cleaning oiled birds down in the Gulf region. In the coming days, more and more wildlife…birds, mammals and more are going to need rescuing. How can you help? If you purchase the special edition of Dawn detergent, there is a code on the bottle. Simply log into Dawn’s specially set up website, enter your code and $1 will go toward the wildlife conservation effort.
For each bottle you purchase—and then activate it online using the bottle donation code—one dollar* is donated to our wildlife conservation partners. Fifty percent of each dollar is donated to the International Bird Rescue Research Center (IBRRC) and fifty percent is donated to the Marine Mammal Center (MMC). Both organizations hold longstanding commitments to the preservation and improvement of animals and their natural habitats.
Don’t go trying to be a hero yourself and clean birds. It takes an expert to do it right without harming them. If you find an injured animal, call (866) 557-1401 and they will take care if it.

A great recap of the Leo Laurent murder trial was written today by the Sea Coast Echo’s Dwayne Bremer. The complete article can be found here.
Some excerpts and highlights.
Leo was sentenced to life without parole.
As deputies led Laurent away, a few tears were visible as he sunk his head and walked out of the courtroom.
The defense did not call any witnesses to the stand and Laurent did not testify on his own behalf.
“I recognize that my client’s slime factor is off the charts,” Alexander said. “But please consider what happened before the incident instead of afterward. What type of weirdo would put his wife in a trash can? But on everything else there are good arguments. The evidence shows it was an accident.”–Brian Alexander, defense attorney.
About two dozen friends and family members of Leo’s wife and victim, Brandi Hawkins Laurent, were present and wept, hugged, kissed, and exchanged tearful embraces.
The defense had based its case on the theory that Brandi was accidentally killed when she and Leo struggled over a pistol after a domestic argument on the evening of August 3, 2007.
Forensic Pathologist Dr. Paul McGarry said Brandi’s hyoid bone was broken and there was bruising and hemorrhaging around the tissue surrounding the bone. “It is a classic case of strangulation.”
