The Bizarre And Sad Case Of Billy Smolinksi: Part 3

In part 2 of Billy Smolinski's story, you saw that of all people, Billy's mom Jan was arrested on trumped up charges of criminal trespassing, harassment and paint balling a school bus.  Here is how Jan described her day in court.

My husband, brother in law and a reporter from the local newspaper came to Superior Ct. with me. I approached the ASSISTANT STATE ATTORNEY a very kind man and he reviewed my charges. Amazed at the story he heard, they took me in a room with my pictures and video tape questioned me several times. I was to sit outside the room, basically where the lawyers sat. Ironically around the corner a short distance away were real criminals hand cuffed and shackled waiting to be sentenced. Talk about an out of body experience. They asked me into a room I would guess three maybe four times. The last time being right before lunch break. The states atty. looked at me and said I have never seen or heard anything quite like this. He nolled the case, gave me his card and said if I wanted to talk with him to call. Some time later I did call him, he never returned my call, but I didn't pursue it.
I later learned that the sentence for just one of the charges (criminal trespassing 1st degree) could have put me a year in jail and a year probation. I just want to let you know if you ask anyone who knew me my life prior to Billy's disappearance, I was quiet, minded my own business and would not challenge. I was forced to either sink or swim and of course I chose the latter. The only purpose and thing on my mind WAS and IS my son. How could this be? On my myspace site is written "The Most Dangerous Place on Earth is between a Mother and her Children." I just want to say this is NOT a bashing of the police departments. They are not educated in the missing adult process and that is why the legislation. This is not only a state problem it is national although our case seems to be more pronounced.

To be continued...
