Louis Caldera, White House Military Office Director

For someone who graduated from West Point and Harvard, went on to serve in the U.S. Army and as president of the University of New Mexico, Louis Caldera wins the award today as the dumbest guy in America. He's now the Director of the White House Military Office whose duties, among others, includes presidential transportation. It's in that capacity he authorized a bizarre photo shoot with the 747, known as Air Force 1 when the president is onboard, flying low in New York City with two F-16 fighters following. The fighters were taking pictures of the presidential plane with New York landmarks in the background simply to "update their files." The problem is, not everyone in New York, including the mayor had any idea of what was going on. Buildings were evacutated and people huddled in the streets wondering if 9/11 was happening again.  "It's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused," Caldera said in a statement.

Not good enough. Nothing short of being fired for poor judgment and insensitive behavior is in order.
