"I've learned that we can learn from our mistakes but our actions have to evidence our beliefs and the way we treat other people does show our true character."

In what should have been a very private matter was made public earlier last week when gossip site TMZ published contents of a restraining order Nikki filed in a California court. How they got their hands on the document is unknown however something like this should never have been leaked. But it was and now Nikki finds herself in a position of not only defending herself from an abuser but from the public as well. She's taking this public airing of her life as an opportunity to warn and educate other women who very well may be in a similar situation. Read her story and see if any of the patterns fit yours or someone you know.

The "horrible choices" she's made included a relationship with former Canton, Ohio police officer Bobby Cutts, Jr. who was just sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend and their unborn child. Nikki dated Cutts years before this crime when she was in college, but suffered terrible abuse by him. She later dated Raphael Shawan Brown, known as "Tweety" by his fans from his days with the group 'Next'. It's Tweety she filed the restraining order against after what Nikki called a 4-year tumultuous relationship.

"Bank in April 2006, I'd gone to court and filed a small claims case against Brown because he'd rammed me with a car when I was driving my car. He ran from the scene," Nikki said speaking about an incident that actually took place in 2005. She didn't feel safe enough to bring it to the court's attention for a year. "He was driving his manager's car and he had his car fixed. Brown then claimed he didn't do it. A year later, he wrecked my car again and tried running from the scene." The cops caught him and found he had an outstanding warrant. He was put in jail.

The abuse had been piling up. She first had a restraining order placed on him back in 2005. In what is not too uncommon, she took him back. "He called me and so did his mom and I went through that whole cycle of moving away then taking him back by feeling sorry for him. He was psychologically abusive, jealous, possessive and he would bad mouth me personally and professionally to everyone. But then he'd be nice and say I was the best ever when I was there. So I was undermined everywhere. I felt insecure and scared and like I couldn't trust anyone "

Then Brown's abuse turned violent. "He didn't want me around my family. He even threatened to kill my brother," Nikki said. "He would blame everything on everyone in his past and act as if he were the victim of all these crazy people."

Given his history and repeated behavior, why keep taking him back?

"That's the thing, my weakness was having too big of a heart and I would see what I thought would be how I could help him when the truth was it was just hurting me. I was losing myself by staying and the longer I stayed the harder it became to leave. At the same time I was dealing with all that legal stuff with Cutts (who was still threatening Nikki early in her's and Brown's relationship) and that made things difficult too. it was my lowest point in life. The time I knew him was like a living hell and even though I've been rebuilding my life this past year, the effects of the havoc he wreaked still remain. Now that I've taken time to focus more on the bad mistakes I made, I realize that I had some sadness which was caused by losing my brother in a car accident then my other brother to suicide. Shortly after that my grandmother died and my parents divorced so there became a part of me that I've been told incessantly was just way too nice and people would take advantage of my kindness because of it."

Tweety would track Nikki using the social media site Twitter. Because she used the program Ubertwitter, it would identify her location through her phone's GPS. As recently as May 8, he tracked her and followed her as she drove home. "I looked in my rear view mirror once I was a few miles from home because I noticed a car trailing far behind me following my pattern of lane changes. I exited then I noticed the car exited very quickly all of a sudden. Once I got to the light, I saw his face. I called 911 and they stayed on phone with me as he followed me a few miles. The police arrested him (on another outstanding warrant)."

TMZ got hold of the story and published it May 19 with the sensationalized headline: GF of Murderer Bobby Cutts Now Scared of Singer.

"I never knew TMZ would get it," Nikki said. "He's had many restraining orders that are still in the system that were never publicized."

It doesn't stop there, of course. Tweety, according to Nikki, claims she's some crazy fan and had been institutionalized. "He's now filed a restraining order against me. It's ridiculous."

Despite all that's happened, Nikki says she's learned valuable lessons...lessons she hopes others will learn as well. "I think I did make bad choices in men when I was younger that I have learned from. I would never allow myself to make those mistakes now. I think most people do make mistakes in love and relationships so it's hard not only to deal with the actual relationship issue and end it, but then to have it be brought back up and scrutinized so you get reminded how bad your mistakes were by dating the wrong people, that could be embarrassing. Rather than being embarrassed, I completely agree with the consensus that I made horrible choices and I didn't know how to pick them. But now I know that to be in a relationship, you can't just jump in but you have to take the time to find out how a person truly is. You can't just give you trust but you have to let people earn your valuable time and attention. I've learned that we can learn from our mistakes but our actions have to evidence our beliefs and the way we treat other people does show our true character. Our kindness to others is a depiction of our hearts and spirituality so it is always wise to live by the golden rule of treating others as you wish to be treated. We should always strive to respect others. And I can only hope that my experiences and the fact that they have been exposed will at least help to allow some people who may be going through the same issues or seeing the same behaviors so they can break off the relationship once and for all because domestic violence only gets worse it never gets better."

Nikki's advice to others who may be in similar situations? "I would tell those women that I know they might be at the lowest point in their life at this moment by the emotional and psychological and possibly even physical pain they're enduring. It's as if you're screaming silently because the abuser is very good at being very charismatic and convincing to others so the women do seem to be the less believable ones because they're the ones going through the most. Therefore, I know it's difficult and I know it's a journey but the fact is that once you get away from that situation, you realize how strong you were for enduring that and you learn to love yourself again. You find you again. And that's more priceless than anything in the world."

Nikki is now in a good and healthy relationship and is looking forward to the end of the school year when she can spend more quality time with her children.

<dc:subject>Domestic Abuse</dc:subject><dc:subject>TMZ</dc:subject><dc:subject>Celebrity</dc:subject>

New Blog--Come See For Yourself!

Hi everyone. Zero Gossip has been around for a few years now and while it's not going away entirely, I'm putting more of my efforts on a new blog that I hope you'll follow. It's called Cold No More and it's devoted to highlighting cold cases or cases that haven't been able to be solved. There are so many families out there who have lost a loved one or even people who have survived a violent crime only to live in fear because their attacker has not been caught. The blog is meant to be interactive so put on your sleuthing caps and come over and participate.

Currently I'm writing about the case of a 30-year-old mother who police say committed suicide with her 5-year-old son in the apartment. Suicide by a gunshot wound to the head. There are so many things about this story that don't add up. No investigation. A husband who describes a loving marriage. Friends who describe the marriage as abusive. There isn't much that makes sense in this and in my own opinion, and that of many others, this was clearly a murder...not a suicide. Come over and see for yourself and don't be shy!
!
Nikki LaDue January and her son Zack

"Vacation" time is over; Time to get back at it

One good news, the other, not.

Yeah so I've been gone a long time. The reasons why have been numerous but now is the time to return. Not that I'm important. I'm not. But the more I see about people in this country just vanishing off the face of the earth, the more I want to do something. Writing about them is one thing. I'd like to do more. Join Missing Persons groups that actually do something would be a pretty good start. If anyone knows of good ones, drop me a note here. In the meantime and going forward, I do want to rededicate myself in profiling people who have disappeared. Maybe I can help or maybe it will trigger something in someone to help. Whatever it takes. I'm tired of doing nothing. There are several great websites out there doing what they can to find people. Peace4Missing is a great one as is Help Find the Missing and NamUs.
The question for me (and you) is who do I start with? I did a quick search to see what the latest is in the sad world of missing people. I can't believe how many recent ones there are. These 3 are at least getting some media coverage. How many more aren't getting any? Those are the ones I'd like to help.

Christiana was last seen at a friend’s home, on Brown St. in Lewiston, ME. Her last known address was 36 Highland Ave. in Lewiston, ME, which had been cleared out prior to her going missing.

Christiana is approximately 5’5” tall, has a slim / athletic build, long dark hair, and blue eyes. She has a tattoo of a turntable on her right shoulder blade and a peacock feather on her right calf.

Christiana had been staying with friends on Brown St. and was waiting to be picked up by a family member to attend a family reunion in Rangeley, ME that she was excited to attend and had been looking forward to. Christiana told family she had borrowed a car from a friend and would arrive at the family reunion but never showed up. Christiana was no longer at the Brown St. residence when her friends returned home and was unreachable by phone. Her friends and family are extremely worried about Christiana, especially because she had been upset after the death of a very close friend for several months. Christiana is a model with a professional page on modelmayhem.com

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Roland Godbout, (207)513-3001 ext.3319 at the Lewiston, ME Police Department or call your local police.

"I think that might be part of the problem."

But Carman said his son has never before left home for an extended period and had always returned by nightfall.

The last sighting of the youth was via a surveillance camera at the corner of Church and Chapel streets Thursday afternoon as he was getting off a bus.

Carman said his family has hired a private investigator to assist New Haven and Middletown police in the search.

Sharon Hartstein, a friend of the Carman family who is coordinating the search today at City Hall, said at mid-afternoon, "We have had no leads, no sightings."

Carman has Asperger Syndrome, a high functioning form of autism. He is white, about 6-foot-4-inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He has short, light brown hair and no facial hair.

The youth is passive and not violent, according to his family. We know he had his wallet and phone ( black LG Optimus ) but his phone has been off or dead since Tuesday. We have checked all of his phone records and there were no calls or texts from unknown people... same as with his emails... nothing unusual. We also checked his banking records and there has been NO activity to his acct since 8/5. He does not ever carry cash and all his checks are accounted for. It would b absolutely out of character for him to just take off... he is quiet and sticks to hanging with his family rather then going out with friends. Seeing that he has only lived in Pennsburg for maybe a year on and off with school... he has not made any friends other then people he may have worked with... but even then he has never been around them outside of work. He would have been going back to Drexel in Sept and was VERY excited for his senior year. Sean does not drive... he walks or relies on immediate family to take him anywhere. There are NO means of transportation via bus or train in this area.

We need as much help as possible just getting the information and his picture out there. Please help us spread his story and his pictures and re post any information related in our search!!! Thank you!!!

And, while she is indeed guilty of lying to police officers, she is not guilty of murder or child abuse. There. It's said. Did she have something to do with Caylee's death? Probably. Did she do it intentionally? I doubt it. Now this is not to say her lawyer Jose Bauz is a genius because at times he seemed almost buffoonish, but in a way, maybe he is...a genius. Was it his idea to turn the Anthony family against each other? Every time one of them took the stand I wanted to cringe. But it did prove something. To me at least. Something in that family wasn't right. As a result, they did things "differently". Casey was no exception. She witnessed her daughter's death. And that part of the brain that helps you deal with that is not factory guaranteed. It's defective in the way that yours and mine aren't. But I don't doubt she loved Caylee. I don't doubt she felt great pain when Caylee died. But I think now, like a did a few years ago, she processes things differently than just about everyone else. Where I may differ with most is I think this goes beyond murder.

Take the barely human LaRhonda McCall and her walking toilet of a boyfriend Steve Hamilton. LaRhonda spent 6 months…yes, 6 months in prison for starving her 2 year old daughter to death. She was sentenced to just 2 years but was released early. That was back in 1996.

Fast forward to today. Her fat ass (sorry, I’m kinda pissed) is sitting in jail again for abusing her 14 year old son. “Abusing” isn’t strong enough of a word. She and Steve locked the boy in a closet for extended periods of time over a span of 4 years. They starved him. They beat him with electrical cords, belts a broomstick and even a tire iron. As if that weren’t enough, they poured alcohol on the boy’s stomach and set him on fire. The apartment manager found a hole in the wall of the closet filled with the boy’s waste.

The boy’s older sister was afraid to go to the police because she feared what these monsters would do next. Remember, LaRhonda killed a daughter but was only sent away for 6 months. However, the sister would bring food to the boy when the mother wasn’t home telling him not to eat because LaRhonda would check his teeth for food.

The Oklahoman Newspaper got a look at the court records.

The boy is identified in court papers as B.M.

"Steve stated between June 2007 and August ... 2009 he has probably left marks on the victim’s back, arms or legs about 20 times ... Steve witnessed LaRhonda also beat the victim in this way as well,” the police officer reported in court papers.

"Steve stated he also knew that LaRhonda would punish B.M. by putting him in a closet on several different occasions. Steve advised he saw B.M. locked in the closet on at least 27 different occasions. Steve advised LaRhonda would at least keep him in a locked closet sometimes all day or more. Steve also was aware that LaRhonda would tie the victim’s hands up to punish him with a belt. ...

"Steve never wanted to contact the police because he was afraid his best friend LaRhonda would get into trouble.”

Read more: http://newsok.com/city-police-say-pair-admitted-beating-boy-14/article/3405115#ixzz0SjZwTZB7

He finally managed to escape and went to a nearby National Guard armory and told his horrific story.

Both have been charged with 20 counts of child abuse and neglect. Of course they won’t get the death penalty. And that, I believe is wrong. If ever there was anyone who no longer deserves to live, it’s LaRhonda McCall and Steve Hamilton.

Jennings Victims: Tragic Beginnings, Tragic End

Whitnei Dubois as a young girl

Last Friday, the Jennings Daily News published a profile about Whitnei Dubois. Whitnei was a 26 year old mom, sister and daughter living in Jennings, Louisiana. She was also the product of horrific abuse and abandonment. In May 2007, she became the 4th of what is now currently 8 victims viciously murdered in her own hometown. Daily News editor Rebecca Chaisson who wrote this profile said today the murders were finally featured on CNN over the weekend. A blip on the news radar but it’s something.

There’s a lot wrong with this. A small town where everyone knows each other and they have a serial killer among them. So far, the police have not been able to put the town at ease. No suspects are in custody and little information has been released. The first murder took place in 2005. The last one, last month. The police have been able to drag the victims’ names through the mud though. Labeling them as having a high-risk lifestyle could this be the reason this horror story isn’t making the national news? A Yale grad student goes missing and we’ve got wall to wall coverage. Could this type of coverage help flush out the Jennings killer?

Despite their “life style” each woman had a story…sometimes tragic. That brings us back to Whitnei Dubois.

Here are some excerpts from Rebecca Chaisson’s poignant story on Whitnei.

She was thrown away like yesterday's trash, stripped of her clothes and then dumped in the middle of a dirt road in Jennings. By the time her lifeless body was found on May 12, 2007, it was decomposed beyond recognition.

Whitnei Dubois - commonly referred to as "victim number four" in the string of eight unsolved homicides in Jeff Davis Parish - had to be identified by fingerprint analysis and dental records. Her grieving family was forced to pay their respects to a closed casket.

Today, Whitnei's family wants to see her killer brought to justice, but they also want the public to know that their loved one was so much more than a "high-risk lifestyle."

In life - and in death - she deserved better….

… "I never expected Whitnei to become one of those girls," Brittney cried when she started discussing her sister's murder. "I had just given her a ride a week before she was found. I was excited for her because she and her new boyfriend were moving to a new home. She had gained some weight, and they were both trying to stay clean. They wanted to make a life for themselves. She wanted her daughter back. She was expecting her 'happily ever after.'"

But when Brittney learned that another body had been dumped down an isolated road in Jeff Davis Parish, she had a gut feeling. A friend telephoned her to say that the description given on the news matched a description of Whitnei. Brittney immediately began calling friends and family members to find out who had seen her last.

"I was on the phone with Maw-Maw when she said, 'I have to go. The police are here.' That's when I knew for sure," Brittney said. "I drove to her house and saw the coroner's truck. I walked inside and my grandma was crying. That's when I hit the floor."

After police questioned Brittney, she called her sister, Taylor, who still hadn't heard the news.

"That was horrible," Brittney said of their conversation over the phone. "She didn't believe it until she got to Jennings. Then, she broke down when we got to the police station. She had a panic attack."

While it was difficult to share such horrible news with Taylor, Brittney's toughest audience would ultimately be Whitnei's 5-year-old daughter.

"The next morning was Mother's Day," Brittney broke down in tears. "(She) had made her mommy a card at school and was looking for her mom because she wanted to give it to her. (She) sat on my lap and all I could tell her was that her mother went to Heaven to meet Jesus. She was smiling at first, but when I told her about her mom, her face changed. She understood what death was, and she started crying. All I could tell her was that Jesus needed her momma. I told her that 'Nanny' would be there for her now, no matter what."

Ten minutes later, the 5-year-old girl wiped away her tears and ran to the vehicle to grab her homemade Mother's Day card.

"She brought it to me and said, 'Nanny, I want you to have this,'" Brittney continued as she began to sob. "I told her to keep it, and she could bring it to the funeral home. (She) read the card in front of everyone at the funeral and then put it on top of the casket. It was so hard to explain to her why the casket had to be closed. She kept asking me, 'Why can't I see my momma?'"

Is it the work of a serial killer? No one knows for sure but it’s looking more and more that way. Eight women from 17-30, have been killed between 2005 and 2009 with the most recent murder last month. Jennings is a town with a population of just about 12,000. It covers only 10 square miles.

Loretta Lewis was the first victim found dead in May 2005 just 3 days after she disappeared. Meet Michael Finton, or as he’s been known for the past 3 years, Talib Islam. Yes, the guy above who lists his occupation as a restaurant manager and his marital status as engaged (sorry babe, I’ll be spending the next 150 years flipping burgers at a maximum level federal correctional institution) was nabbed in an FBI sting yesterday after he thought he was detonating a car bomb near the Paul Findley Federal Building and Courthouse in Springfield, Illinois. The FBI says, “Finton drove a van containing what he understood to be explosive material and parked it directly in front of the northwest corner of the federal building. Finton got out of the van, locked the door and got into another vehicle driven by the undercover FBI officer and drove away. Within a few blocks of the federal building, Finton made a cell phone call to remotely detonate the purported bomb in the van. FBI agents arrested Finton immediately after he attempted to detonate the device.”

Back in December, he wrote to his Congressman complaining about the agencies (Joint Terrorism Task Force and the FBI) that would end up arresting him 10 months later.

Congressman (Phil) Hare, thank you for taking the time to read this. I know that you are a very busy man so I will try and keep it brief.
My name is Michael Curtiss Finton. I live here in Decatur. I have a very serious issue that I must speak to someone about. I don't know what else to do other than this.
I am a convert to Islam of about 3 years. I love my religion just like I love my country. The two do not conflict. However, there are some who disagree. I have had my rights completely and utter violated on numerous occasions over the last 3 years almost, and I feel both outraged and helpless. I have had my books and paperwork taken by members of the JTTF, FBI without a warrent. I was on parole at the time and they admitted to me that my parole had been violated by them-not IDOC-as an excuse to take my things; as they could get no warrent. I had been on parole for over a year with no incidents. I kept a job and passed my drug tests. My parole officer in Decatur told me that I had done nothing wrong and that it was not my fault that I had been violated. The FBI agents lied to me about their names over the phone. They wouldn't tell me their last names. They got physical with me, interrogated me regarding my views on various subjects in religion and the political situation, and tried to get me into a room in the back.
I have had my home raided by Decatur police on an obviously bogus warrant. Thrown on my porch in my underwear with a battering ram and assault rifles. They went through my house (and were supposed to be searching for a stolen microwave that no one had reported stolen and no one had been charged with stealing.) and recovered the microwave right away yet continued to search. Even taking a digital camera into my office where my computer and books are. When contacted the police said they had no record of anyone visiting my house that day.
I have been pulled from my car, where a digital camera was produced by p.d. and my picture was taken and my tatoos recorded. At a gas station at approx. 1 p.m.
Homeland Security came to my job twice while I was incarcerated asking questions from everyone I knew. Furthermore they stopped me at the airport and photocopied all my bank cards and contents of my wallet.
The U.S. sent word to the Jordanian government to search my bags again while transiting from Jeddah (went on my Umrah to Makkah). I was pulled into a little room where the head of airport security informed me that I must follow him to baggage and my things will be sorted.
The Secret Service said that the JTTF said I was threatening the life of the President. Agent McWilliams informed me that the charges were groundless and never bothered me again.
My phone has been tapped for two years.
I don't know what to do sir. I have no one that will help me and it is affecting my daily life. I feel that I am living in 1984 and it sickens me as an American and as a Patriot of this great nation. I work and go home sir. That is all I do. I feel that something must be done and I beg your help. Please help me.

This “patriot” lists as his idol, John Walker Lindh, the American Taliban.

Unrelated but eerily similar, another man was arrested in Dallas after doing the same thing…parking a car he thought was loaded with explosives near an office building and trying to detonate it.

</rdf:RDF>
